Our Scientific Projects
MERCES project
EcoReach is currently Co-Leader of the WP9 (Dissemination, communication and public engagement) of the MERCES project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The Marine Ecosystem Restoration in Changing European Seas (MERCES) EU project is focused on the restoration of different degraded marine habitats, with the aim of: 1) assessing the potential of different technologies and approaches; 2) quantifying the returns in terms of ecosystems services and their socio-economic impacts; 3) defining the legal-policy and governance frameworks needed to optimize the effectiveness of the different restoration approaches. Specific aims include: a) improving existing, and developing new, restoration actions of degraded marine habitats; b) increasing the adaptation of EU degraded marine habitats to global change; c) enhancing marine ecosystem resilience and services; d) conducting cost-benefit analyses for marine restoration measures; e) creating new industrial targets and opportunities.
DEVOTES project
EcoReach has been co-Leader of the WP7 (Outreach, stakeholder engagement and product dissemination) of the DEVOTES project – DEVelopment Of innovative Tools for understanding marine biodiversity and assessing good Environmental Status. The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) requires Member States to take measures to achieve Good Environmental Status (GES) in the marine environment, by 2020. DEVOTES will develop tools to understand and describe biodiversity status at an European scale, including as many components of the ecosystem as possible, providing the scientific knowledge, upon which appropriate monitoring and management strategies can be designed and made available for managers.
MOMICO project
EcoReach has collaborated on the MOMICO project, dealing with the dissemination of the research results of the MOMICO project, funded by the Marche Region FEP Funds 2007-2013. The MOMICO project – Monitoraggio del MItilo del COnero – was born from the need to establish, on the one hand, a technical-scientific collaboration aimed at understanding natural and/or anthropogenic mechanisms have led to a marked decline in the mussel resource over the last decade, on the other, to the identification and implementation of a monitoring and valorization process of “mussel resource” and environmental characteristics necessary for sustainable management of the same.
